They learned about rationing and its importance, discovering how Frederik Woolton’s scheme helped families during the war. The children bravely role-played as injured soldiers, working together to safely evacuate their comrades to the hospital. Another exciting challenge involved cracking wartime codes inspired by Alan Turing’s pioneering work. Teams raced through the orchard and maze—though a few delightfully got a little lost!

We also explored the significance of medals like the Victoria Cross, creating clay tributes to honour loved ones’ bravery. The afternoon was packed with outdoor fun, from toasting s’mores over the fire to carefully walking across a tightrope, building dens, making a variety of creative dishes in the mud kitchen, and hunting for insects and mini-beasts using nets and trays.

The children’s enthusiasm and excellent manners impressed all staff throughout the trip. It was wonderful to see them so engaged, learning, and enjoying every moment. We’re thrilled they had such a fun and memorable experience!

They also explored the Land of the Living Dinosaurs, where they came face to face with life-sized models of roaring T-Rexes and towering Brachiosauruses. The children were amazed by the realistic sights and sounds and loved learning about how dinosaurs lived millions of years ago.

Everyone had a lovely time, and the experience sparked lots of curiosity and conversations back in the classroom. Well done, Reception!

Once we arrived in London, we took a walk to Covent Garden to watch the street performers and then headed to the theatre where we climbed 87 steps to be precise (not that the children counted!) up to the Grand Circle to find our seats.Ìý The children were all in awe of the show, the costumes, the singing, the acting, it was clear they loved every minute.Ìý For the staff, it was the look on children’s faces that made it, it’s that alone that makes the long days worthwhile.

Our Year 4 Griffins did Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø proud – with members of the public watching the show complementing our pupils.Ìý Thank you Year 4, we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!

Following that, we went to the UK’s largest planetarium (the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium). We were all astounded at the amount of effort, hard work and determination required to be an astronaut. Many of our ambitious Griffins left with dreams of becoming the next Tim Peake.

Later, we went to the famed Rocket Tower! This location houses Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets, the Gagarin Experience, Apollo Lunar Lander, and an actual Moon Rock! The four exhibition decks cover the Space Race, the history of rocketry, and Britain’s Space Race.

This extraordinary school excursion inspired the next generation of space scientists and engineers at Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø. We all had a wonderful day, and the children did an excellent job representing the school!
