Year 6 have been learning about D-Day 80 this week and have explored how and why the day is remembered. We learnt about people who had fought in the Second World War, both men and women, and their key roles in the invasion in Normandy 80 years ago.
We discovered how the invasion took place, with ports being built to trick the Germans. We discussed how our lives would be different today if the allies hadn鈥檛 won the war. We also debated whether wars should be fought, where wars are still taking place today, and even should National Service be introduced now? It was a very lively discussion!
An interesting fact: Did you know the D in D-Day actually stands for Day? It is a phrase used for the day of any important invasion or military operation.
