As part of our Griffin Sports Festival, our Year 6 Griffins have taken part in an energetic but mathematically challenging lesson. Racing across the playground, the children have solved difficult mathematical questions. Each question, if answered correctly, would lead them to the next. ÌýThis challenge not only got them moving but thinking and checking their answers too.

Well done Year 6! It was lovey to see you working hard and having fun at the same time!

What an unforgettable visit for Year 6! Our Griffins journeyed back in time at the Black Country Living Museum, where history truly came alive! From traditional trades to Victorian streets, pupils immersed themselves in the fascinating world of the Black Country. Looking back at our very own heritage. They took part in exciting demonstrations, explored the historic buildings, and even had a go at some hands-on activities. It was fantastic to see their eyes light up with curiosity and excitement!

They also visited the different shops and houses in the museum, learning what chemists, hardware shops, general stores and many more were like in the Victorian era. The question is, would you like to be a Victorian child or do you prefer the modern luxuries we have today?

Our Year 6 pupils had a wizarding time at the Warner Brother Studios recently, as part of their “You’re a wizard, Harry” English curriculum.
Our Griffins entered the Great Hall, just as Harry, Hermione and Ron did in the Harry Potter stories and their breath was taken away by the sights and sounds they experienced. Also, they walked through Gringotts Bank and Diagon Alley just as Harry did, and were stunned by the costumes, props and rooms recreated from the films. Year 6 were especially shocked when they saw Hogwarts Castle. It was a truly breath-taking sight!
It was an amazing experience and one which we hope will inspire the children further to be Creative Chameleons and Innovative Iguanas in their English work.

Following on from their Lifewise work exploring First Aid, Year 6 had a visit from Dudley First Responders, Mitchell and Michaela, who taught them all about what their job involves and the emergencies they have to deal with.
They taught them how to respond to and resuscitate a patient if they stopped breathing – a very important skill to have. They also taught the children what to do with minor first aid issues and they explored the equipment that First Responders carry.
A huge thank you to Mitchell and Michaela for giving up their time to come and talk to us.

6 Hawking had an exciting visit to the Black Country Museum on Wednesday 2nd October! They took part in a “History Detectives” workshop, where they used primary and secondary sources to uncover the story of a Victorian family. The day also included a traditional Victorian schoolroom lesson from a very strict teacher, with Mr. Siviter receiving a Victorian-style punishment with the cane! The children also enjoyed a ride on a vintage bus, explored historic houses, and learned about Victorian lifestyles. It was an unforgettable hands-on history experience for everyone!

6 Curie were immersed in the Victorious Victorian Era when they visited on Monday 7th October and took their opportunity to explore what life was like in Victorian times. The children studied in a Victorian school, learnt how to write in a copperplate style as well as finding out the punishment given to children who didn’t behave! They explored a variety of artefacts in the historical sources workshop, and questioned what a primary and secondary source was. They also visited the different shops and houses in the museum, learning what chemists, hardware shops, general stores and many more were like in the Victorian era. The question is, would you like to be a Victorian child or do you prefer the modern luxuries we have today?

We have some amazing Creative Chameleons in Year 6!
As part of their Prep for Learning, Year 6 had researched street graffiti. They focused on the artist Banksy, facts about him, his style of art and examples of his work. The children then linked their knowledge with the theme of energy to create a piece of art and they were able to choose which medium to use.
Year 6 also explored the graffiti artist Keith Haring and his energy-filled style of drawing. The children had great fun creating their own characters. Their pictures were original and innovative and our Griffins took such care with their art work.
Well done Year 6!

Year 6 have been learning about D-Day 80 this week and have explored how and why the day is remembered. We learnt about people who had fought in the Second World War, both men and women, and their key roles in the invasion in Normandy 80 years ago.
We discovered how the invasion took place, with ports being built to trick the Germans. We discussed how our lives would be different today if the allies hadn’t won the war. We also debated whether wars should be fought, where wars are still taking place today, and even should National Service be introduced now? It was a very lively discussion!
An interesting fact: Did you know the D in D-Day actually stands for Day? It is a phrase used for the day of any important invasion or military operation.

Our Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Griffins study a very varied, interesting and thought-provoking PSHE curriculum and Year 6 explored the topics of British Values and Forced Marriage. The children discussed both areas with empathy, confidence and understanding and both themes certainly broadened their knowledge of issues in their world.
As part of the Forced Marriage discussions, we talked about the pros and cons of different marriages and we had to guess what age restrictions there were on certain activities. It certainly encouraged heated discussions!
Comments on British Values included :
“British Values means you respect other people around us even if they are different from us. They deserve to be respected.”
“British Values means the pride and laws of Britain.”
“British Values means that you do not judge people by their beliefs and values.”
“British Values are democracy, laws and liberty.”
Well done, Year 6!
